Plan for Space II
Hearing Headphones

Audio work: Installation & Performance
2010 - 2012
Shown at Cafe Oto, Resonance FM, Framework FM, Profound Sound Festival & London College of Communication

'Hearing Headphones' hopes to connect listeners to their surroundings by bringing their attention back to the actual spaces and activities around them.. They consist of headphones with ear mounted microphones, giving a live feed of the listener’s surroundings played directly to them.

The Headphones are for use on everyday journeys - as a replacement for music.
They intend to engage the lister with the location and enrich their sonic experience of it.

The work exists in two forms: as a performative experience for the listener and as recorded soundscapes compiled for an audience.

The former reveals unheard sounds from everyday places that connect the listener to events and architecture that can often go unheard. While the later - the recordings compiled, are edited into a phycho geographical journey that can reveal the delicacy of a city's sonic range. And as they have been recorded without a bias of pre [sonic] selection, we can find that screaming children, electrical drones and hums to silences and 'nothingness' actually reveals a careful sonic architecture.

The city can reveal a symphony or a cacophony of sounds, it simply depends on how we
 choose to listen to it.

EXHIBITIONS / PERFORMANCES
Hearing Headphones

Profound Sound
September 2012

Invited by Jonathan Wright to participate in the evening event Profound Sound - 'An evening of sound art and music, by people who just love to listen!'.

A sound art cover album of bands who have played, or will play at The Forum. Using the Hearing Headphones I took a day trip to Tunbridge Wells, armed with an MP3 player full of music by bands related to The Forum. While I explored the town, listening to music, my headphones recorded the lost soundscapes around me.  These were then compiled in the sound art cover album, and named accordingly.
Sound coming soon - from Art Brut, to Nadine Shah and Bombay Monkey.

The event was in support of Jonathan's commission Profound Riches at The Forum, by Hoodwink.
