Score & performance of covid dataComposite by Numbers exhibition, Jan 2021
|
Created for Composite by Numbers, an online exhibition sonifying covid data around the world, through winter 2020 and spring 2021.
In the midst of our second peak of COVID 19 the UK we find ourselves in a worse position than we were 11 months ago. A new strain of the virus is taking over the county, the national health service is almost overwhelmed and more than 100'000 have now died. This work brings together the numbers of people of who have died each week into an 11-piece score. Starting from the first week in March last year when the first person died, to the latest weekly total of 7507 deaths this January - these numbers are to be heard as frequencies, 1 death for 1 hertz. This performance draws out the numbers from a field recording taken in the initial weeks of the pandemic, during the first nationwide quarantine, from a time when it felt like the world had stopped. Composite by Numbers is curated by Dyang Yrola. Visit the exhibition online here. |
